Bromley 1-0 Solihull Moors
Bromley 1-0 Solihull Moors

Bromley recorded back to back league wins for the first time this season and moved into the play off places thanks to a hard fought single goal victory over Solihull Moors at Hayes Lane on Saturday.

Neil Smith was forced into one change for his starting line up with Chris Bush returning from suspension to replace the injured Jack Holland at centre back, keeping the same 4-4-2 formation.

The game got off to an open attacking start with both teams looking to be positive, Solihull having the first chance when a cross from the left found Tyrone Williams, but his effort was saved by Mark Cousins from close range.

As the visitors pressed Jamie Ward set up Adam Rooney, but Chris Bush was on hand to make a brilliant saving tackle on the edge of the area. Jordan Cranston shot wide soon after before things settled down and Bromley came into things.

Solihull looked to get the ball forward early to their strikers, while when in possession Bromley moved the ball round well, with Taylor Maloney putting in an impressive shift in midfield next to the ever reliable Liam Trotter.

Frankie Raymond had a free kick saved by Ryan Boot after a foul on Courtney Duffus and the striker then had to undergo lengthy treatment to a bad cut to his face.

After several minutes of medical attention Duffus was immediately involved in two good chances for The Ravens, he just failed to connect properly with his head to Luke Coulson’s cross from the left and soon after that he then intercepted a pass from Boot to Reiss McNally, but his curling effort went narrowly wide of the far post.

Going into the seven minutes of added on time Solihull finished strongly with a spell of pressure, Bush making a great tackle to deny Ward and keep the scores level.

The second half saw Bromley start in positive fashion, but Solihull soon battled back and the play flowed from end to end at a frantic pace, with both defences looking solid.

Bush’s long throw found Michael Cheek whose header was saved by Boot and Maloney shot wide from long range after a good run from midfield.

The Ravens had a strong shout for a penalty turned down by Referee Mr Gill when Williams appeared to have fouled Jack Bridge in the box, but the official judged Williams to have got a touch on the ball.

Bromley put on the pressure with a series of in swinging corners that Boot coped with well, before Moors then had a good period of pressure, Ward hitting the wall with a free kick that went off for a corner after Kizzi had fouled Justin Donowa.

The only goal of the game came with 13 minutes left on the clock, after Cheek had been denied by a great tackle from McNally, Raymond sent in another dangerous corner that found Kizzi unmarked at the back post and the defender nicknamed ‘The Magnet’ headed home to make it 1-0 to Bromley.

Moors rallied again from there, Cranston’s cross was headed over by Donowa and Kizzi then made a block to deny Donowa’s shot, which went out for a corner.

With Moors pressing the resulting corner fell to Ward whose driven effort was palmed away by Cousins for another corner, that was headed over the bar by Cameron Archer.

Bromley dug in with a superb defensive display and held on for the win which takes them up to seventh in the National League table ahead of their home game with leaders Sutton Utd on Tuesday night.
