Bromley 1-0 Fleetwood Town
Bromley 1-0 Fleetwood Town

Bromley picked up three points with another hard fought 1-0 win, this time at home to Fleetwood Town on Saturday afternoon at Hayes Lane, but in truth they owe the victory to a superb second half performance from keeper Grant Smith who made a string of match winning saves.

The game started with Andy Woodman’s side lining up 4-5-1 and they got off on a positive note when Adam Mayor crossed from the left for Michael Cheek who slid in at the far post and directed the ball just wide.

Fleetwood battled hard and weren’t afraid of the physical side of the game, but The Ravens created the better chances a long ball upfield finding Danny Imray on the right, who cut in and then struck a post with a powerful drive from a tight angle.

Bromley continued to press the visitors, but Fleetwood did go close when James Bolton headed a corner wide at the far post. Ben Thompson had a shot deflected wide by former Bromley loanee Brendan Wiredu and Cheek headed wide from a corner, before The Cod Army came back into things late on in the half, but were kept at bay by the home defence.

The second half saw Bromley get off to the perfect start when Fleetwood were caught playing out from the back and Cheek dispossessed Rhys Bennett on the edge of the area, before coolly sliding the ball past Jay Lynch  for 1-0 inside the first minute.

Fleetwood responded with Mackenzie Hunt having a shot saved by Smith and the home keeper then denied Phoenix Patterson’s curling effort from 20 yards out.

Pete Wild’s side continued to press with Bromley happy to sit back and look to catch the visitors on the break. Patterson and Wiredu both shot over for The Cod Amy, while on a rare attack Carl Jenkinson crossed for Thomson whose shot was saved by Lynch.

With Fleetwood continuing to press for a leveller, Danny Mayor played in Patterson who saw his powerful drive from range tipped away by Smith for a corner and then deep into injury time with Bromley camped in their own area Brandon Cover crossed for Louis Marsh who seemingly had headed the ball home, but somehow Smith threw out an arm and diverted the ball away to safety and preserved all three points for Bromley.

The Ravens are now eleventh in the table only seven points off the top seven, in what has been a quite incredible start to their debut League Two season. Bromley now prepare for the visit of Harrogate Town to Hayes Lane next Saturday.
