Bromley 0-2 Grimsby Town
Bromley 0-2 Grimsby Town

On the afternoon where Bromley fans said goodbye to the East Terrace, The Ravens winless run continued with a disappointing home defeat to Grimsby Town at Hayes Lane, conceding two second half goals to David Artell’s side who dominated the game after half time.

With Callum Reynolds departed, Idris Odutayo injured and Omar Sowunmi suspended, Andy Woodman stuck with his 5-3-2 formation and handed a debut to Millwall loanee Adam Mayor at left wing back, his performance being one of the few highlights in a fairly desperate afternoon for The Ravens.

Grimsby started the game on top and dominated the first ten minutes, before Bromley rallied after an terrible challenge on Mayor by Curtis Thompson, which seemed to galvanise the home side.

Mayor was a constant threat down the left and Louis Dennis was looking lively. After a good spell, The Ravens were handed a great opportunity to take the lead when Michael Cheek latched on to a poor back pass, but Mariners keeper Jordan Wright did well to deny The Ravens top scorer, coming out quickly when one on one.

Deji Elerewe was another Bromley players who came out with credit from the match and he went on a surging run with the ball before a passing moves saw the ball fall to Dennis who fired over from the edge of the area. Corey Whitely then did well down the left to set up Dennis who saw his powerful drive tipped over by Wright for a corner.

After a penalty shout for the visitors when Byron Webster collided with Kieran Green, Bromley went into the closing stages on the half on top. A corner was just scrambled wide at the far post, Danny Imray set up Dennis who saw his goal bound shot blocked by Harvey Rodgers, before another series or corners saw Grimsby hold out.

The second half saw a complete change in the complexion of the game and Grimsby went in front after only a minute, when Jason Dadi Svanthorsson raced past Webster and crossed for Danny Rose to bundle the ball home after some hesitant defending, with Grant Smith uncharacteristically caught static on his line.

Dadi Svanthorsson then went close from range, before Green set up Rose who curled an effort narrowly wide. Elerewe was on hand to make some vital blocks, but he was powerless to stop Rose shooting wide again as the visitors pressed for more.

The second Grimsby goal finally came on 69 minutes, when Eva Khouri cut in from the left and found Justin Obikwu unmarked in the area who drove the ball low and hard into the far corner for 2-0 from 12 yards out.

Dadi Svanthorsson had a shot saved by Smith and George McEachran fired wide with the home side unable to muster any kind of response. The only downside for The Mariners was Lewis Cass’ double yellow card in injury time for a foul and then kicking the ball away, which saw him sent off seconds before full time.

Grimsby were well worth their three points leaving Bromley now having to regroup ahead of their trip to Salford City on Tuesday night, hoping they can rediscover their winning formula and end a run of five league games without a win.
