Bromley’s poor run of form and bad luck with injuries continued on Monday night as they fell to another league One defeat, losing 2-0 at home to AFC Wimbledon and having three players taken off injured.
Andy Woodman set his side up 4-5-1 with Deon Woodman coming into the defence for his debut, Will Hondermarck, Michael Cheek & Corey Whitely returning to the starting eleven.
The game got off to an open start, but it was the visitors who struck an early blow when James Tilley’s cross from the right was headed home by Jayden Stockley, straight through the arms of Shamal Geroge and into the net from six yards out. Kamal Conteh had a long-range effort for The Ravens, which went over as Bromley had a decent spell, stepping up their intensity, but they then lost George & Woodman to injury before half an hour had been played.
Wimbledon seized the advantage from there, Steve Seddon firing over after debutant sub keeper Owen Mason had saved a dangerous corner with his feet. Late on there were chances at either end, Mitchell Pinnock’s long throw was flicked over by Cheek, while at the other end Steven Sessingnon fired just wide at the near post from a long throw.
The second half saw Bromley start looking more positive, Pinnock’s long throw was headed over by George Saville, before Wimbledon came back into things. Stockley having a header saved from a corner. The Ravens then lost Rochard Taylor to injury, with Whitely dropping to left back, but they did create one great chance when Cheek, Pinnock and Marcis Ifill combined down the right, the ball coming to Conteh who had his shot well saved by Josef Bursik.
The killer blow for Bromley came on 67 minutes when Saville lost the ball in midfield and Stockley found Myles Hippolyte free in acres of space on the right with a great pass. Hippolyte then coolly took the ball into the area and slid it past Mason to make it 2-0 to The Dons.
Nothing really happened from there as the game drifted to a conclusion, JJ McKiernan having a late effort on goal go wide, but that’s all the response Bromley could muster.
The Ravens no travel to Blackpool on Saturday looking to find some form before they start to get stranded in the bottom four.
