Bromley 0-0 Eastleigh

Bromley picked up a creditable point from the opening Vanarama National League game of the season on Saturday against a strong Eastleigh side in front of a good crowd at Hayes Lane.

The Ravens made a positive start and looked to get the ball out wide and play, but they found it hard to get through the rugged Spitfires backline. Eastleigh got stronger as things went on and after a couple of wayward efforts on goal their best chance came when Reda Johnson headed against the bar from a corner at the back post.

Bromley did well to keep the visitors at bay and as the rain came down they put two late chances wide when Mark Yeats and Danny Hollands were off target.

The second half saw Bromley start well again and they nearly broke the deadlock when Adam Mekki crossed for Louis Dennis but he mistimed his header and the ball bounced off the pitch and looped over the bar.

Dennis went close again soon after when he latched on to a slick passing move, but took one touch too many and scuffed his shot across goal and wide.

The game went through a quiet spell and was often broken up by offsides and over fussy officiating.

Bret Williams had a good chance blocked by Johnson before Eastleigh came back stronger with Chris Zebroksi and Andrew Boyce heading off target from corners.

Late on sub Iffy Allen fired over after good work down the right and then in injury time former Bromley player Sam Wood put a chance wide from the edge of the box.

The Ravens now travel to Dover Athletic on Tuesday hoping to keep things tight at the back again, but hopefully being a bit more creative up front.
