Bromley took a step close to sealing automatic promotion at a sold out Hayes Lane on Thursday night as they battled out a goalless draw with fellow challengers Cambridge Utd.

Andy Woodman made several changes to his starting line up following the defeat at MK Dons with club captain Byron Webster returning to the team.
Woodman, who was suspended for the game, had to watch from the stand as Cambridge went close early on when Shayne Lavery put a chance wide for Neil Harris’ side.
Bromley had a good spell from there and had an appeal for a penalty for a foul on Nicke Kabamba waved away by Referee Sam Mulhall. It was the visitors who created the best chances in the first half though, Ben Knight missed a great chance one on one with Grant Smith after racing clear when he scuffed his shot wide and Dominic Ball went close after good work by Laim Bennett down the right.
Knight’s paced was really causing Bromley problems and he forced a good save from Smith soon after. The Ravens finally got going halfway through the first period when Mitchell Pinnock crossed for Omar Sowunmi whose downward header bounced off the ground and over the bar.
The match was played at a frantic pace and both sides had good spells, Ben Thompson and Lavery having chances at either end, but the half ended scoreless.
The second half took a while to get going, Lavery had another shot saved by Smith, before Bromley came back with a scramble in the area that saw three shots blocked, Thompson, Webster and Jude Arthurs denied by Cambridge defenders.
Marcis Ifill then launched a lung busting run from defence that ended in another corner. As the pace slowed a little Cambridge made changes, Jame Brophy crossing for Kelland Watts who saw his header tipped over by Smith.
Bromley pressed again with Ashley Charles having a shot deflected wide and Pinnock put a dangerous ball across the area that somehow evaded everyone. Cambridge pressed going into injury time, but it was The Ravens who had the final chance when a goalmouth scramble eventually saw the Linesman wave for offside and the game ended all square.
A draw probably a fair reflection of a breathless game of football.
Bromley now have a week off before they travel to Salford City next Saturday, by which time they may have already been promoted depending on how Notts County do at home to Barnet on Saturday.
