It’s back to FA trophy action for Welling United on Saturday when they visit Brentwood Town.

In the last round before National League North and South clubs come into the tournament, the Wings have possibly the toughest possible tie when travelling to the Isthmian League Premier Division pace setters.
They were drawn to play away in the last round, too, when visiting Southern League Premier Central Division side, Royston Town. In that game the Wings recorded their only clean sheet so far this season in a three-nil win. Femi Akinwande gave them a half time lead and a John Ufuah brace gave them a smooth passage into the first round.
On Tuesday evening, Welling interim manager, Rod Stringer, gave squad members who were short of playing time, and those who will be unavailable for Brentwood, a run out in the London Senior Cup at Cray Valley PM. Logan Dobbs scored the Wings’ goal in a two-one defeat after they conceded twice in the first fifteen minutes.

Their last league game, away at St. Albans City, also ended in a two-one defeat. They were behind at half time but Eze Ebuzoeme levelled in the eleventh minute of the second period. However, St. Albans went back ahead two minutes later and Welling were unable to claim the point that they probably deserved.
Also in county cup action on Tuesday, Brentwood defeated Brightlingsea Regent three-two in the Essex Senior Cup with Charlie Edwards claiming the winner in time added on. Their last league game was a home game with Ramsgate which they won two-one courtesy of goals by Alejandro Machado and Louie Johnson. They progressed in the Trophy by coming from behind at Westfield with Machado notching a last gasp winner.
Stringer will have to shuffle his pack as he will be without Dobbs (suspended), Greg Cundle (injured) and cup-tied duo Luke Allen and Jack Thomas. He will also be monitoring the fitness of Christian Scott, who took a knock at Cray Valley, and TQ Addy. Liam Boxall and Marcel McIntosh made their debuts in that match and may be included in the squad, and Stringer suggested afterwards that there may be a couple of players coming in as cover.
