Due to the clocks going back in the evening after the match, many supporters were looking forward to an extra hour of sleep.

However, some of the Welling United players appeared not to be prepared to wait for the night and put in a lethargic first hour in their FA Trophy match at Brentwood Town. They had performed well in recent games at Ramsgate and St. Albans City, but like the clocks, they went back on Saturday.
In the opening minutes the hosts came close to going ahead when Charlee Hughes spotted Kai McKenzie-Lyle off his line and his chip from thirty-five yards came back out off the woodwork.
McKenzie-Lyle then struggled with a low cross by Benas Vaivada and it came out to Daniel Ogunleye who thrashed it over before Brentwood went ahead in the eleventh minute. From a long pass forward the Welling goalkeeper got caught out of position and Hughes pulled it back for Ogunleye to slot home.
Looking for a response, Tom Leahy played it out to Jack Paxman and he drew a good save out of Melvin Minter in Brentwood’s goal.

Ogunleye had another opportunity with a close range header that was saved brilliantly by McKenzie-Lyle before the hosts went two goals ahead. Ogunleye crossed to the far post and Benas Vaivada left his marker sleeping to head home unchallenged.
Clout cut in but could not garner the pressure to stretch Minter before the Wings created another opening shortly before half time when Christian Scott held it up well before passing to Paxman and his shot flew inches wide of the far post.
Almost immediately after the restart, Brentwood added a third, and again Welling’s defence gifted it to them. Another low Ogunleye cross was allowed to cross the six yard box and two attackers almost got in each other’s way before Vaivada rolled it in.

At the other end, Welling came close to pulling one back when Eze Ebuzoeme had a shot cleared off the line. It came out to Ruben Shakpoke and his shot was also blocked by a defender on the goal-line.
Both teams made substitutions and two of Welling’s almost combined to create a goal when Scott Simmons whipped in a cross that picked out John Ufuah but he couldn’t finish then Shakpoke missed another chance when he broke through but tried to walk it in and a defender got back to clear.
Hughes set up Ogunleye who struck his shot sweetly but McKenzie-Lyle tipped it into the side netting. Then, at the other end, Ufuah intercepted a poor clearance by Minter and might have shot but passed unselfishly to Shakpoke whose shot was blocked by Jonathan Nzengo.

Aaron Williams-Bushell had a shot deflected over for the Wings then Paxman had another sight on goal but wanted one touch too many and the chance was lost.
Lekan Majoyegbe, who had up to support the Welling strikers, blasted over however the hosts had the last chance of the match when Kymani Thomas was set up by Ogunleye but his effort was blocked by Liam Boxall.
Shortly after, the referee brought the contest to an end and Welling’s FA Trophy dream was ended for another year.
