Bolton W v Charlton A preview
Bolton W v Charlton A preview

The Addicks travel to Bolton on Tuesday night knowing that anything less than a win will confirm their demotion to League One.

Jose Riga’s seemed to intimate he was considering his future at his post match press conference on Saturday, so it will be interesting to hear his reaction after the game if his team do fail to win.

Chris Solly and Johann Berg Gudmundsson took knocks against Derby and will struggle to make this game. Yaya Sanogo has still not recovered from his hamstring problem and is again ruled out. Riga may field this team:

Pope; Motta, Fanni, Teixeira, Fox; Harriott, Cousins, Diarra, Yun; Vetokele, Lookman.

Subs: Mitov, Lennon, Bergdich, Lapsle, Ba, Jackson, Makienok.

The referee will be Eddie Ilderton from Tyne & Wear.

With Bolton already relegated, and Charlton effectively down, it will be a surreal atmosphere at the Macron.

The 200 or so travelling fans will be hoping that the team can produce a performance to stave off mathematical relegation for a while longer.

Former Manchester United chief scout, Robbie Cooke, has emerged as a surprise contender to be Charlton’s head of recruitment.

Cooke was David Moyes’ talent spotter at Everton, and followed his boss to Old Trafford and Real Sociedad.

With Moyes in no rush to take another job, Cooke may feel that the time is right for him to branch out.

If he and Lennie Lawrence do join the backroom staff, the Addicks will have a vastly experienced axis for their League One promotion push next season.

Results elsewhere meant Jason Euell’s Under-21 team were crowned champions ahead of their game at Hull.

The game with the Tigers ended 1-1, the Charlton equaliser coming from a Josh Umerah after 20 minutes.

Charlton: Mitov; Barnes, Konsa, Thomas, Staunton; Charles-Cook ( L’Ghoul 80), Kashi (Dijksteel 63), Aribo; Kennedy, Umerah, Hanlan.

Subs (not used): Beeney, Obileye, Ahearne-Grant.

Goal: Umerah 20.

Hull: Watson; Lenihan, Rodgers, Clappison, Clackstone; Hamilton, Batty, McKenzie, Bowen; Edwards, Olley.

Subs: Saltmer, Annan, Curry, Barkworth, Lofts.

Goal: Clappison 12.
