Bobcats and Jets split doubleheader
Bobcats and Jets split doubleheader

Sunday 11th June saw Tonbridge Bobcats travel away for the second consecutive week, this time a trip down the M23 to visit the Brighton Jets.

Much like last week the outcome was identical, game 1 resulted in a walk off win for the opposition, with Tonbridge fighting back and winning game 2 in comfortable fashion.

The first game started slowly for Tonbridge, only scoring 1 run in each of the first 2 innings, partly thanks to some impressive Brighton pitching, whereas Brighton scored 10. Facing a 10-2 deficit, something clicked and the runs started to mount up for Tonbridge bringing the score to 15-12 in favour of Brighton entering the last inning however it wasn’t quite enough as Brighton managed to win 17-16.

Game 2 and momentum had completely shifted, seeing Tonbridge leading 12-3 after 3 innings. A scoreless 4th inning was a small bump in the road for Tonbridge who preceded to score 11 in the 5th whilst holding Brighton to 5, for a final score of 23-8.

These results see the Single A Bobcats go into a month long break with a 6-2 record, with the Double A Wildcats going into the break with a 4-2 record. Both teams are back in action on the 9th July, Wildcats at home to the Mariners and the Bobcats travel to the South Coast Pirates.

24th and 25th June sees the return of Major League Baseball to the UK after a 3 year hiatus. The St Louis Cardinals facing off against the Chicago Cubs in what is known as the London Series.

Many Tonbridge players will be in attendance and Tonbridge Baseball Club welcomes any new players aged 14+ to get in contact with the club if they have been inspired to give the sport a try on the back of witnessing the London Series.
