Despite having the majority of the possession and territorial advantage, Welling United fell to defeat at Taunton Town.

After the match, Welling manager Danny Bloor pulled no punches when saying “It’s a defeat, and that’s a fact.” However, he admitted that the result didn’t tell the full story when he continued “I’d like to look at the statistics of the game but I should imagine that we had 75% of the game. It was a cheap, poor goal we gave away then we had opportunities, another missed penalty. The last three games have been stories of penalties, haven’t they.

“You’ve come all the way down here, can you be disappointed with the way we played? No, but we haven’t won. We’re lacking a cutting edge, someone who’s going to score goals and that’s for me to rectify in the coming days.”

Goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom didn’t have anything to do other than once pick the ball out of the net but Bloor said “You can dress it up but we’ve lost four games on the bounce. Take out that first game and I think we’ve been good in the other three games. We just need that rub of the green.

“If Paps (Antony Papadopoulos) scores that penalty, it’s one-one, and you come down here and you get a point. The save from David (Kamara) was very good, as was the one from Jack Burchell. It’s not happening at the moment and the only way to change is to work hard in training on Tuesday and to work even harder on Thursday.”

Strikers in his squad are limited. “Young David is only seventeen.” he said. “Alex MacAllister got injured in training on Thursday night, one of our other attacking options, but we just need to keep working hard.”

Finally, he had a word to say about the good turn out of away supporters. “What I must say is a massive thanks for the Welling fans who came down. Other than that first half at Truro, I think that the fans can see what we’re trying to do.”
