Blackpool v Gillingham preview

Gillingham head to Blackpool this afternoon looking to keep their play-off hopes alive with another victory.

The 1-0 win against Wigan Athletic at Priestfield on Wednesday evening briefly saw Steve Evans’ side climb into League One’s top six, but results on Friday saw The Gills drop back down to eighth.

With games in the league fast running out, Gillingham are doing all they can to make the play-offs, winning five out of their last eight games, losing just the once in the process.

Only seven more games remain for The Gills in this campaign and with 21 points up for grabs, Steve Evans will be hoping his side can pull off a shock win in the North West this afternoon.

Evans could welcome back central defender Robbie Cundy after missing out in recent weeks, whilst striker Dominic Samuel is pushing for a place in the starting eleven and could partner Vadaine Oliver up front with John Akinde dropping to the bench.

Whoever does start for The Gills, manager Steve Evans knows his side are in for a real test at Bloomfield Road against a Blackpool side that start the game sitting sixth in the league.

Evans said: “They’ve got pace and power all over their team. They can play a number of systems and they do it at different times.”

“They’re very good at working the ball through the lines, and they take chances when they come because they have the quality to do so.”

“It will be a tough afternoon, but one we’ll look forward to.”

Blackpool’s recent form has been decent of late and having played three games less than The Gills, have to surely be more likely to make the play-offs, but who knows? Come 5pm on Easter Monday, things could look very different going into the final month of the campaign.
