Bishop’s Stortford 1-1 Bromley

Bromley returned from their midweek trip to Hertfordshire with a point, which was probably a fair reflection on the game, but still felt like two points dropped to the travelling fans after a late spell of pressure.Bromley

With Mark Goldberg unavailable Neil Smith took charge of The Ravens, but it was Fifth from bottom Stortford who started the game on top with Ryan Melaugh having an effort saved by Seb Brown after a strong run down the left.

From the resulting corner the home side took the lead when Anthony Church headed home from six yards past a flat footed defence.

Bromley were troubled by the pacey Stortford attack and always looked vulnerable at set pieces, and it took 20 minutes for The Ravens to create any kind of chance, with the forwards too often isolated.

Melaugh went close two more times for Rob Stringer’s side having one shot saved by Brown and firing just over soon after.

Then on a rare attack Bromley equalised on 40 minutes when Damien Scannell broke free down the right and crossed for Jordan Robertson to head past David Gregory with a deft flick to level it up at the half.

Stortford once again started the half on top causing the Bromley defence problems with set pieces and crosses, but The Ravens did occasionally break and create chances with Robertson driving over and Adam Bailey Dennis having a header saved by Gregory from a corner.

Sheldon Sellers hit a fierce free kick for the home side which was tipped round the post by Brown and Rod Young was also denied by The Ravens keeper before late on Bromley had two chances to win the game.

Both chances came from corners and both saw Danny Waldren denied by Gregory once with a header and then his sliding effort was blocked on the line right at the death.

Bromley still sit just on the brink of the play off spots, but after two months of the season they still seem to be struggling to find a settled line up or game plan.

Next up for Mark Goldberg’s side is a trip to Aveley to face Grays Athletic in the FA Cup on Saturday.
