Birchall out to impress against former club
Birchall out to impress against former club

Striker Adam Birchall will start against his former side as Gillingham take on Dover Athletic at The Crabble on Tuesday night.

The 27 year old left the Whites for Priestfield last summer in a three year deal for an undisclosed fee, but suffered a serious knee ligament injury in a pre-season game against Welling United, ruling him out of the entire 2011-12 campaign.

Now back to full fitness, Birchall will lead the line for Gillignham against his former employers where he spent two seasons, scoring a staggering 64 goals.

A true fans favourite amongst Dover Athletic supporters, Birchall is sure to get a warm reception in front of a decent crowd at The Crabble.

Meanwhile, Gillingham manager Martin Allen has already named his starting eleven for the game with Tommy Forecast to start in front of a back four that once again includes French trialist Bernard Onanga Itoua after he played against Ebbsfleet United on Saturday.

There will be a new face at right back, with another French trialist to be handed a game. Just named as Michael, he will line up alongside Connor Essam at centre back, whilst Andy Frampton will play at left back.

A midfield four of Charlie Allen, Jack Payne, Lewis Montrose and Danny Jackman will look to press their claims for a place in Martin Allen’s starting eleven for the forthcoming season with youngster Ashley Miller given his first run out in pre-season alongside Birchall.

The subs bench will be made up of youth team players, although all of those that played against Ebbsfleet United on Saturday will travel with the squad to watch the game.

Gills side to play Dover Athletic: Forecast, Michael (trialist), Essam, Itoua, Frampton, Payne, Allen, Montrose, Jackman, Birchall, Miller.
