Best weekend yet for Ray

Lydd’s Bradley Ray announced his Bennett’s British Superbike Championship intentions with two wins at a Podium at the weekend.

Ray was dominate from free practice and that continued throughout the weekend.

But for sketchy conditions in qualifying Ray would probably have taken pole position, as it was he qualified on the third row.

As the lights went out on race one he was away and into the lead and from there he lead the race well, controlling it even with the safety car as he crossed the line for his first BSB win since 2018.

On Sunday for race two he started from pole position and again he was off with teammate Kyle Rude in pursuit, however he couldn’t keep up with him. Even once Lee Jackson cleared Ryde, Ray had to much in his pocket and it was win number two of the weekend.

Race three of the weekend he once again started from pole position, he got away well but was pipped by Ryde into the first corner. Once he got passed by his teammate he was off and away again.

However, this time it wasn’t to be as Tommy Bridewell and Jackson caught up and passed him, with Jackson taking his first BSB win, Ray had to settle for third behind Bridewell.

It was Ray’s best BSB weekend of his career to date and he heads into Donington Park in a couple of weeks time with a six point lead at the top of the standings.

Speaking after the weekend, Ray said: “It has been a great weekend for us and it feels good to leave with the championship lead. The last race was difficult; I tried to put in as many fast laps as I could and pulled a gap but I struggled a bit in the latter part of the race. I tried everything I could but I just couldn’t hold the gap.

“I gave it everything and Lee had unbelievable pace at the end of the race so congratulations to him. I was happy to have another podium, it wasn’t another win but it has been a good weekend for me.

“I am happy going to any track now with the Rich Energy OMG Racing Yamaha and I am feeling good in myself, so I am looking forward to a reboot and be ready to go again at Donington Park.”
