Best training with the Addicks

Karl Robinson confirmed at his press conference ‎on Thursday that much travelled striker, Leon Best, is training with the club.

Best was released by Ipswich in the summer, but last played for the Tractor Boys in January.

Chris Powell tried to bring Best to The Valley in January 2014, but the Irish International wanted to stay in the north.

He opted to join Sheffield Wednesday on loan from Blackburn‎, and scored for the Owls against Charlton in the 5th Round FA Cup tie at Hillsborough.

Best who approached the Addicks for a‎ trial, is still only 30-years-old. If he can recapture match fitness quickly, he could be a useful asset for Robinson.

Here are the boss’ thoughts on Best:

‎”He’s here for a few weeks and is training, he certainly adds a bit of depth to us when you look across the field during training. We’ve got 22 players training today (Thursday).

“We never jumped into anything during the window, we were always very calm and calculated.

“We know what our squad needs, we know where our frailties lie, and we will just have to wait and see what happens.

“Leon contacted me as well, which is always a positive starting point.

“He hasn’t played competitive football since January. He went out to America and got an infection after an operation on his groin.

“He seems to be well over that now and has come across as a really nice person in his first few days here. He’s been very co-operative and has fitted into the dressing room well.”
