Bearsted & Sheppey secure promotion

Both Bearsted and Sheppey United have been promoted from the Kent Invicta League following Wednesday night’s results.

2016 Kent Reliance Senior Trophy. Ashford United FC v Sheppey United FC.

Bearsted lost 2-0 at home to APM Contrast, whilst Sheppey United beat Eltham Palace 4-1 at Holm Park on Tuesday night, but Glebe losing 4-1 at Gravesham Borough saw both clubs promoted to the Southern Counties East Football League for next season.

It was the Kent Invicta League’s decision not to replay the game between AC London and Glebe that saw Bearsted and Sheppey United promoted.

The game between AC London and Glebe was abandoned shortly before full-time with the home side leading 3-1, but the result will now stand and the game won’t need to be replayed.

Bearted are currently leading the Kent Invicta League, two points ahead of Sheppey United with two games to go.

Sheppey United travel to Sutton Athletic on Sunday before completing their league campaign at home to Bridon Ropes next weekend.

Meanwhile, Bearsted will look to wrap up the league title with victories away to FC Elmstead this weekend before entertaining Sutton Athletic on the last weekend of the season.

It’s already been a remarkable season for Sheppey United with the island side having won the Kent Reliance Senior Trophy, beating Ashford United on penalties at Maidstone United’s Gallagher Stadium, whilst their ground regeneration saw over 700 fans flock to Holm Park for the recent league clash with Glebe.
