Barrow v Gillingham preview

Gillingham could cement their place in the League Two play-off places when they head to promotion rivals Barrow this evening.

The longest trip of the season comes after the original tie was postopned, meaning Stephen Clemence’s side have the long journey to Cumbria, just days after the trip to Salford.

That venture north ended well as Gillingham came back to Kent with a 2-0 win that’s lifted them back up to 7th place in the league.

With a renewed sense of optimism around the club and a real feel that Clemence’s side have turned a corner, the Head Coach is expected to keep faith with the same side that started on Saturday.

That will see Oli Hawkins and Ashley Nadesan partnered up front yet again as Gillingham will keep faith with the 3-5-2 formation that has served them so well in recent weeks and months.

The victories over Salford City and Wrexham have not only lifted the confidence among the camp, but also among the travelling support with over 500 having made the trip at the weekend.

A lot less are expected to make the journey to Cumbria this evening, but those that do will be hoping to see yet another battling display that has seen their side show they have more than enough to finish the season in the top seven.

March is always a pivotal month when it comes to places in the league with games coming thick and fast. Having strength in depth will go a long way to seeing with squads have what it takes to progress.

The game will come too soon yet again for striker Josh Andrews, whilst Jorge Hurtado and Dom Jefferies are long term absentees, so the squad almost picks itself at present.

Come 10pm this evening, Gillingham will be hoping they remain above Barrow in the league as the 8th placed hosts have their own ambitions, so this will be a tough game.
