Barrow AFC vs Bromley preview

Bromley make their furthest trip of the season on Saturday for an early evening kick off away at National League leaders Barrow in front of the BT Sport cameras.

The Ravens go into the game sitting fourth in the table with 50 points from 30 games played, winning two and losing three of the matches around Christmas and New Year.

Neil Smith’s side were without a game last weekend, having lost 2-1 at Notts County the week before, but since then The Ravens boss has signed two players in centre back Michael Chambers from Wrexham and winger Corey Whitely on loan from Newport County.

In the opposite direction have gone Reeco Hackett-Fairchild who has joined Portsmouth and Adam Mekki has gone out on loan to Ebbsfleet United.

With a number of the long term injuries now coming back to fitness, the Bromley squad is starting to look a lot stronger ahead of the final 16 league games, with no cup distractions.

Barrow sit top of the league with 55 points from 28 games, they have won their last two games 7-0, defeating Ebbsfleet Utd in the league and FC United of Manchester in the FA Trophy, both at Holker Street.

When the sides met at Hayes Lane in October Barrow ran out 2-1 winners, Dior Angus & Scott Quigley putting the Bluebirds two up before Michael Cheek pulled one back for The Ravens.

Ian Evatt’s side are viewed by many Bromley fans as the best team to have played The Ravens so far this season in any competition and their current unbeaten run of 14 matches goes all the way back to October.

When the teams met at Holker Street last February the game ended 1-1 with Angus on target for the home side and JJ Hooper scoring for Bromley. This will be a tough test for Smith’s team as they look to keep themselves in the play off spots and try to get back into the top three which would ensure home advantage and a place in the semi finals for the post season matches.

The 5.20pm kick off has greatly reduced the number of Bromley fans able to travel as there is no return train service to London available after the game, but a good number will assemble at Hayes Lane to watch it together on TV in the club’s bar.

The club has appeared twice on TV so far this campaign drawing 1-1 at Dagenham & Redbridge before narrowly losing out 1-0 at home to Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup replay, hopefully this time round they are due a win.
