Ashford United vs VCD Athletic – Preview

Newly promoted VCD Athletic travel to Ashford United for an Isthmian League South East Division match on Saturday.

Although Ashford have been enjoying good cup runs, they have got off to a difficult start to their league campaign. They have picked up five points from seven games with one win and two draws.

Scoring goals has not been a problem for them. Last Saturday they drew three all with Biggleswade in the FA Trophy before winning on penalties, and in their Velocity Cup game they drew five apiece at Faversham Town. Gary Lockyear has already scored nine league and cup goals, Louis Collins has eight, and Jefferson Aibangbee five.

Ross Barker and Danny Joy’s Vickers have also been in cup action recently, losing four-one to Wingate and Finchley in the FA Trophy last Saturday before beating Welling United three-two in the Kent Senior Cup on Tuesday evening. Harry Sargent, Ollie Freeman and Harry Lawrence were on target.

They are in fourteenth place in the table with ten points from eight games, having won two and drawn four.

Lloyd Hulme won’t be too worried about his Nuts and Bolts’ league position yet, however, he will want them to start picking up points sooner rather than later. Meanwhile, a win for VCD could move them into the top ten and not too far away from the play-off places.
