Aldershot Town 2-3 Bromley

Bromley kept their slim play off chances alive with a dramatic late winner from Joe Kizzi against Aldershot Town in an enthralling five goal thriller at the Recreation Ground on Saturday afternoon that saw The Ravens take the lead three times and The Shots draw level twice.

Andy Woodman chose an unchanged team from the draw at Notts County last week, lining up 4-4-2, which was matched by Aldershot’s starting formation.

With 1,175 home fans in attendance the game got off to an open start in a great atmosphere, with both sides looking to be positive and having spells of pressure. Tanner had an early shot saved for the home team while Bromley looked dangerous from set pieces and Chris Bush’s long throws.

Kinsella tested Mark Cousins on a couple of occasions with deep crosses and Tanner was just off target for The Shots, but it was Bromley who took the lead on 28 minutes with their first real chance of the match.

A foul on Kizzi by Nouble, which saw the Aldershot man lucky to only get a yellow card, lead to a free kick which Bush sent in deep to the far post, Liam Trotter guided it back into the six yard box and after Kizzi’s initial shot had been blocked, Michael Cheek was on hand to convert from close range  and make it 1-0 to The Ravens.

Hinds had a header saved by Cousins as Aldershot looked to respond, but Bromley could have been two up soon after when Jack Bridge played in Jude Arthurs one on one with Hall, but his shot deflected wide off the advancing keeper, although the Referee awarded a goal kick.

With the game wide open, Nouble went close for the home side, while Trotter had a shot deflected wide at the other end.

Late in the half The Shots lost the influential midfielder Anderson to injury as he made a brave challenge on Billy Bingham on the half way line.

The second half saw Aldershot start on top, Kizzi was fortunate not to be punished for a coming together with Nouble that stopped The Shots player’s run on goal, before Tanner curled a shot towards the far corner which Cousins did brilliantly to turn round for a corner.

Cousins then saved bravely at the feet of Tanner and made another great save to deny Bettamer. The home side’s pressure eventually paid off on 72 minutes when Nouble crossed from the left for Panayiotou to convert from close range at the front post and make it 1-1.

Bromley rallied from there and were back in front on 76 minutes when the two substitutes combined with Harry Forster racing down the right wing and sending in a great ball for James Alabi to powerfully head home from six yards out.

Aldershot continued to press though, and after having a goal ruled out for off side Panayiotou made it 2-2 heading home a Fowler cross from the right at the back post.

With both sides looking for the winner The Shots created some good chances, Bettamer hit the bar with a free kick and Nouble was denied by Cousins, before Bromley rallied and made one final chance count.

A half cleared set pice came out to Forster on the left and he sent in a deep cross, which Kizzi met perfectly to head home at the far post and give The Ravens a 3-2 win deep into injury time.

The win leaves Andy Woodman’s men in eighth with one National League game to play, which is against Notts County at Hayes Lane next Saturday lunch time.

The Ravens will need to win and hope that other results go their way to reach the end of season promotion play offs.
