Agar to join Kent on overseas deal

Kent Cricket have announced that right-arm fast bowler Wes Agar will be a Kent player in the LV= Insurance County Championship until 21st May.

The Australian has made two ODI appearances for his country to-date and has made first-class appearances for Australia A this Winter against New Zealand A, positioned by Cricket Australia as a test for available red-ball bowlers in ‘conditions likely to replicate the English Summer’, and using the Dukes ball.

In the first match of the tour, Agar dismissed three of New Zealand A’s top-order on his way to innings figures of 4-56.

In the last two years, the 26-year-old has taken 41 wickets in 11 first-class matches. He was named the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year in 2020, awarded to Australia’s most promising first-class player under the age of 24.

The duration of his spell as a Kent player will cover all Championship matches until the arrival of India’s Arshdeep Singh in June.

On joining Kent, Agar said: “This is an exciting new challenge for me – playing county cricket has always been a dream of mine and I’m excited to be a Kent player and thankful for the opportunity.

“With a win already under our belt this year, I hope to be a part of more victories in my time here.”

Kent’s Director of Cricket, Paul Downton, said: “Wes is an exciting, wicket-taking bowler known for bowling a ‘heavy ball’.

“He offers us a point of difference that will complement our core bowling group at the Club and will help us in our efforts to take 20 wickets in each of our next four matches in the Championship.”
