AFC Greenwich Borough v FC Elmstead preview

There’s a big match in prospect at Holmesdale when AFC Greenwich Borough host FC Elmstead in a midweek game in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division.

After an outstanding performance on Saturday, the hosts are eight points behind league leaders SE Dons with three games in hand, and three points adrift of Rochester United having played two games viewer. Elmstead are one place and four points behind Lordswood who occupy the final place in the play-off zone.

On Saturday, Greenwich visited Sheppey Sports and gave them a trouncing. Stefan Payne opened the scoring in the first minute on his way to four goals in under half an hour. Oghosa Williams also scored a brace as the away team went in six-nil up at the break. Bradley Ryan and Abel Vendrells-Parcerisa added goals within six minutes of the restart before Borough saw out the remainder of the game.

Meanwhile, Elmstead were visiting mid-table Tooting Bec. The hosts went one-up in the sixth minute before Jordan-James Tingley equalised just after the half hour mark. There was no further scoring and the spoils were shared.

This will be the third meeting between the two teams this season. On August Bank Holiday Monday, Williams scored the only goal for Greenwich in the twentieth minute of the league encounter. Then in the Challenge Cup, Borough again won at Elmstead courtesy of a brace by Vendrells-Parcerisa.

It will be the third of five consecutive away games for Elmstead as they look to keep in touch with the top five while Greenwich will be aiming to take full advantage of the first of their games in hand to bounce back into second place and put pressure on the league leaders.
