In a cup tie between tenants and landlords it was the tenants who came out on top as AFC Greenwich Borough beat Holmesdale 2-0 in the SCEFL Challenge Cup second round at Oakley Road on Tuesday night, thanks to two well taken second half goals.

Greenwich started the game on top looking to put Holmesdale under pressure with their quick passing game, Bradley Ryan going close twice with long range efforts after strong runs from midfield.
Dale’s defence were steadfast keeping Borough at bay, until a slip let in Oghosa Williams, but he had a shot well saved by Charlie Wealands.
Late on in the first half Dale did create a chance when a long throw came out to Alfie Clark who hit a volley from 25 yards that just went over the bar.

The second half saw Ryan go close for Greenwich again, shooting wide after a good run, but Dale also had a chance from a corner when Lewis Heywood-Oriogun’s header hit the top of the crossbar.
Minutes later though it was Greenwich who took the lead when a quick break up field saw Williams pick the ball up outside the area, race clear and coolly slip the ball under Wealands for 1-0.
Six minutes later after another good spell of pressure, Borough made it 2-0 when Ryan curled a free kick into the top left hand corner of the goal from 25 yards out, giving Wealands no chance.
Italianas Komas then had a shot saved by Wealands, before Dale settled and came back into things, but they just couldn’t create the chances required to get back into the game against a very impressive young Borough side.
Holmesdale now focus on their SCEFL Premier Division home game with Hythe Town on Saturday, while Borough travel to Bridon Ropes in Division One looking to maintain their promotion challenge.
