Addicks striker makes Welling move

The Charlton Under-21 team gained a creditable 0-0 draw against Brighton in the friendly fixture at the Seagulls state-of-the-art Lancing training complex on Tuesday afternoon.

The Under-18 side did not fare as well, slumping to a 5-0 defeat on the south coast.

The Under-21 team was:

Mitov; Pyke, Obileye, Thomas, Edwards; Gabsi, Cumberbatch, Gerard, Browne; Pigott, Ansah.

Subs: Beeney, Osborne, Holmes-Dennis, Dowa, Muldoon, Charles-Cook, Daniel, Ahearne-Grant.

Young striker, Tobi Sho-Silva, has joined Welling on an initial one month youth loan. Sho-Silva will still be able to represent the Addicks at Under-21 level during his stay at Park View Road.

Sho-Siva made 17 appearances for the Wings during a loan spell last season.

Charlton are keen to add at least one striker to their squad during the loan window but they may also be looking to loan some of the fringe players out.

Nick Pope had a successful loan stint at York last season and Bob Peeters will have to balance up the need to have Pope on the bench, with getting him valuable game time away from The Valley.

Another player Peeters will have to make a decision about is highly talented young defender, Joe Gomez.

Gomez has made first team appearances at right-back this season but Peeters may consider loaning the England Under-19 international out to get him a run of games, possibly in his preferred central defensive position.

Possibly the prime candidate for a loan move away from The Valley is Joe Pigott.

Pigott will be 21 in November and now needs regular first team football. He scored his first senior goal for the Addicks from the penalty spot against Oxford in a Capital One Cup match at The Valley last season.

Pigott made 11 league appearances for Charlton last season – mainly as a substitute – but failed to score.

The Maidstone born striker did open his league account, when he scored for Gillingham at Oldham, during a 7 match loan spell last season.

Pigott was an unused substitute against Brentford at Griffin Park on the opening day of the season. He was again on the bench for the Capital One Cup game against Colchester but was not used.

Since then, Pigott has failed to even make the bench in any of the Addicks’ five league and cup games.

A loan move to the right club would seem to be in the interest of both parties.
