Addicks postpone Gills game

Gillingham’s League One clash against local rivals Charlton Athletic at The Valley scheduled for Wednesday 29th has been postponed due to Covid.

Charlton Athletic informed the EFL that it would be unable to fulfil the fixture due to a number of positive COVID-19 cases in their squad.

In light of the increased transmission rate of the Omicron variant, the EFL will now review the circumstances surrounding the postponement.

In addition it will assist affected clubs throughout this challenging period to help them mitigate against the risk of infection amongst players and staff, while ensuring their obligations to the EFL regulations are maintained.

A rearranged date for the fixtures will be confirmed in due course.

This becomes Gillingham’s third consecutive League One game that’s been postponed due to Covid with last Saturday’s clash at home to Crewe Alexandra called off due to Covid in the Gills squad.

Meanwhile, the Boxing Day clash against Ipswich Town at Priestfield was called off after Gillingham were unable to field a side due to more Covid cases.

Gillingham’s next League One fixture is now set to be away to Milton Keynes Dons on Saturday 1st January with kick off scheduled for 3pm.
