Addicks game set to go ahead

Bradford City’s heroic display at Villa Park on Tuesday saw them become the first fourth tier side to reach a major Wembley Cup Final.Charlton Athletic

Rochdale reached the final of the League Cup in 1962 but the competition was decided over two legs in those days.

Former Charlton boss, Phil Parkinson, guided the Bantams to Wembley after eliminating Wigan and Arsenal en route to that two legged semi-final victory over Aston Villa.

Parkinson was dismissed by the new board at The Valley just four days after they took over in January 2011. He was in charge during one of the most difficult times of the Addicks’ history and Charlton fans will be pleased for one of the game’s genuine nice guys.

The Addicks have now sold their entire allocation of tickets for the game against Crystal Palace on 2 February. Charlton will be backed by 3,000 fans at Selhurst Park.

Before that though, the Adddicks will face Sheffield Wednesday at The Valley on Saturday. There were concerns about the pitch and surrounding areas following this week’s heavy snowfall. However, sterling work by the groundstaff and a band of volunteers has cleared the snow and the pitch now has frost covers on it. The club are confident the match will go ahead.
