It is a week or so since Tahnoon Nimer made his bullish financial promises to Charlton fans.

He announced that all the necessary paperwork had been lodged with the EFL to prove he had the funds to run the ‎club, and also to verify their source.

‎But Nimer was not going to wait for EFL approval, he was going to pump money into the club “immediately”.

He was planning a series of renovation plans while the Valley stayed closed, including the lighting. Presumably he was intending to replace the non functioning floodlight bulbs.

But a week on, nothing, zero, zilch. Nimer has gone quiet, and until he puts his words into action, Addicks fans will understandably remain sceptical.

They fell hook, line and sinker for Matt Southall’s smooth patter, only to be let down. Nimer arrived on his white charger to make everything right.

And on paper he can, he could be the perfect owner. He is wealthy enough to sustain a successful Championship club, but will he actually do it?

We live in uncertain times. The crash in the cost of petrol at the pumps – now little more than £1 a litre – has largely slipped under the radar due to the focus on the coronavirus pandemic.

‎All Middle Eastern businessmen will have seen their wealth plummet due to the crash in oil prices.

Could Nimer be having second thoughts, or have his advisors advised him not to go ahead with the Charlton deal?

Hopefully all is well and the delay is because Nimer was overly optimistic about the complexities of transferring money into the Valley coffers.

But until their is concrete proof of Nimer’s intentions, fans will remain sceptical. As the old saying goes, actions speak louder than words.
