Lidsey aiming for big finish
Lidsey aiming for big finish
Race winning Renault UK Clio Cup driver Brett Lidsey makes a very welcome return to his home track, Brands Hatch in Kent, later this week where the Northfleet-based racer says he’ll leave nothing on the table in pursuit of a coveted top three championship finish.
Rounds 17 and 18 of the campaign take place this coming weekend, 12th/13th October, around the full Grand Prix Circuit at Brands and Lidsey heads there with his confidence as high as it’s ever been after claiming his first race victory in the category just over a week ago at Silverstone.

Deservedly joining the list of Renault UK Clio Cup race winners, which features some of the biggest names of the past three decades in British motor racing, after delivering an outstanding lights-to-flag victory in round 15, the MRM driver is determined to try and produce the same form on home soil.

Going into the last two races of only his second full season of competition at this level Lidsey is fourth in the standings, 22 points outside third position, and extremely hungry indeed to overturn the deficit and end the year inside the coveted championship top three.

Whatever happens at Brands Hatch, the season finale – which marks the historic last appearance of the Clio Cup on the British Touring Car Championship package – will be an event of huge celebration for Lidsey and his local sponsors Liftout, GHR Scaffolding Ltd, GPL Projects Ltd, Certus Security, Dornack, Taylor Made Decals, MS Motorsport and MSY Grab Hire & Mini Digger Hire.

Additionally, a huge number of family and friends are expected to be at the track throughout the race weekend to give plenty of support as Lidsey sets about trying to add to his tally of pole position starts, podiums and, hopefully, bid for a second career Renault UK Clio Cup victory.

“It’s always fantastic to race at Brands, obviously my home track and somewhere I’m always lucky enough to receive amazing support from my family, friends and sponsors”, he commented, “After Silverstone, which was an unbelievable weekend, I’m taking a lot of confidence into Brands and I’ll be trying as hard as possible to get back in the championship top three – that’s my main aim.

“Although I won on the road at Thruxton, the win was taken away with a penalty. So to finally get that first victory under my belt at Silverstone – after qualifying on pole – was a big relief, it proves what we’ve known was possible all year. To close down a 22 point gap to third in the championship is going to be tough, but I won’t leave anything on the table and will give it everything.”

In total, Lidsey has nine podiums to his credit this season with four second place finishes, four third position results and, of course, the race win from Silverstone just over a week ago. He also qualified on pole position three times so far in 2019.

Pre-event practice for the final event of the season at Brands Hatch GP will take place this coming Friday, 11th October. Qualifying will get underway at 10.55 on Saturday, 12th October, with round 17 following at 15.45.

On Sunday, 13th October, round 18 will begin at 12.45 and will be screened live on ITV4 and streamed online at www.itv.com/btcc
