Jewiss targeting more success

Kiern Jewiss heads to Rockingham for the eighth round of the season this weekend and will be looking to continue his sensational run of form. The driver’s fantastic run has seen him reduce the gap to the championship leader from 72 points to just 17 over the last five races.

Heading to Northamptonshire for the eighth round of the season, Jewiss’ rookie season in the Ginetta Junior Championship has gone from strength to strength over the past five months and he is now an official race winner in the championship after his success at Knockhill last time out.

Since leaving Knockhill, the big news coming out of the Championship has been the exclusion of the JHR Developments team after the ongoing saga which started when three of JHR’s drivers were excluded from the Thruxton meeting in May over apparent irregularities with the engines in their Ginetta G40’s.

The news means that Sebastian Priaulx and Tom Gamble, the current top two in the championship, have had to find new homes at HHC Motorsport and Elite Motorsport respectively.

However, this makes no change to Kiern’s preparation for the race weekend as he continues to put in a strong bid to become the first rookie in a decade to win the overall title. Jewiss’ tremendous run of form has seen him take eleven podium finishes across the season and after finishing in second place on nine occasions, he finally got his maiden win under his belt at Knockhill following a superb last lap move.

Kiern’s dominance in the battle for the rookie title means he could, theoretically, become the Rookie Champion this weekend with two rounds to spare. His current 11 rookie wins and 126-point lead over JHR refugee Adam Smalley means he will need to extend his margin by a further 57 points to wrap up the title at Rockingham.

Looking forward to this weekend, Jewiss is confident of keeping his strong run of form going, he said: “Getting my first win at Knockhill was definitely a weight off my shoulders and now the first win is in the bag, I can hopefully keep the ball rolling this weekend. The team has been absolutely fantastic recently and that’s shown with myself and Dan (Harper) locking out the top two in qualifying at Snetterton and Knockhill. The objective this weekend is clear and that is to score as many points as possible and hopefully leave Rockingham further up the championship standings.”
