The Guy Luzon era got under way with a 0-0 draw against in form Wolves on Saturday.

Marko Dmitrovic, Morgan Fox and new arrival, Milos Veljkovic came into the team with Neil Etheridge, Rhoys Wiggins and Lawrie Wilson. Oguchi Onyewu and George Tucudean were left out.

There were some fairly obvious differences between Luzon’s style and that of his predecessor.

The back line play higher up the pitch than they did under Bob Peeters. They also clear the ball quicker and no longer mark zonally at corners.

Dmitrovic had little to do but had a solid game. Veljkovic shielded the back four efficiently and is a talker, cajoling and encouraging his teammates throughout the game.

The first half was dull in the extreme, with the two sides cancelling each other out.

Wolves’ manager, Kenny Jackett, was sufficiently unimpressed to make a double change at the interval.

Callum Harriott, Jordan Cousins, Igor Vetokele and Tony Watt had the best of Charlton’s chances, while Benik Afobe always looked the most likely to break the deadlock for Wolves.

It was an encouraging start for Luzon and he had this to say after the game:

“I think our first target was to keep the clean sheet after last week’s 5-0 defeat.

“It was very important to be organised, to be patient and to come with confidence.

“Wolves have fantastic momentum after four wins in a row. We know they are a difficult team, a talented team, an organised team and they score a lot of goals – we did the job well.

“In the second half we had some chances to take the three points. Unfortunately, we missed but I’m satisfied and delighted with our performance,” said the new head coach.

Luzon will now focus on his first game at The Valley, the crunch game with Rotherham next Saturday.
