It was a miserable cup defeat for Invicta to Wightlink on Saturday night with the Kent side missing Nicky Lewis, Callum Fowler, Ashley Jackson, Steve Osman, Bailey and Taylor Wootton.

However, things started well when Josh Condren played an splitting pass through to Haydn Wootton who skated towards Matt Colclough at speed and slid the puck underneath the home netminder for one – nil on 10:41.

The lead only lasted 15 seconds, Ryan Webb having a shot saved by Damien King only for Jaroslav Cesky to gobble up the rebound for 1-1.  The Dynamos tried in vein to regain the lead and were given a chance on 13:20 when Dan Shier was given a tripping penalty – but the Mo’s failed to make the most of the powerplay.

Wightlink took the lead on 18:33, Chris Cooke blasting a shot from the blue line which hit Josh Condren and deceived King for 2-1. Mason Webster was penalised 20 seconds later for an interference penalty – which Wightlink made the most of with Cesky converting another rebound on 19:55 for a 3-1 first period lead.

The second period was a better affair for the Dynamos. Chances for Condren and Zosiak saved early on by Colclough. A tripping penalty against Dan Shier on the 30 minute mark gave the Dynamos the opportunity to grab a goal back – which they did on 31:10 thanks to a low, long drive by Adam Rehak assisted by Josh Condren. Similar to the previous period the Dynamos were their own worst enemy as they gave away another sloppy goal, the unmarked Ryan Webb making it 4-2 on 31:42 to restore a two goal cushion.

Adam Rehak can count himself unlucky to not grab his second goal after turning Drabek inside out only to shoot wide of Colclough. The second period ended with Wightlinks Aidan Doughty serving his third penalty of the night on 39:35 when boarding Brad Gutridge.

The powerplay advantage in the third period wasn’t capitalised on but the Mos did bring back to 4-3 shortly afterwards when Zosiak shot in from the blue line on 45 minutes. With only an attempt by Webster that hit the post the Mos were second best for most of the last period. Goals by Drabek, Rose and Doughty rounded up a miserable night on the road for the Dynamos in what started so well but ended as a 7-3 defeat.

Coach Kevin Parrish will be hoping some of his missing forwards will be back sooner rather than later. The hard working Haydn Wootton picked-up a deserved man of the match award whilst the injuries mounted up again with Josh Condren picking up a knock which limited his ice time in the final period.
