Whitstable Town and Haywards Heath Town were both promoted and winning a lot of games but after tonight both teams look as if they will struggle.

This was a drab affair with either side coming out with any credit, the game needed some quality but neither side seem to have it.

The first half chance of the game came in the 14^th minute when Max Miller crossed into the area for Melford Simpson but his header was easily saved by Dan Eason, the game then went into a lull as both teams gave the ball away. In the 30^th minute Heath could have scored when a corner by Callum Saunders found Nathan Cooper 8 yards out on his own but he headed wide. Whitstable had their only real chance in the 38^th minute when substitute Louis Sprossen 25 yards out saw his shot come back off the crossbar.

The second half was a little bit better than the first but still no quality, in the 46^th minute Sprossen saw his 20 yard effort saved by Joshua Heyburn, then in the 52^nd minute a free kick by Saunders to the back post found Simpson but from an acute angle his header went wide.

In the 56^th minute a long ball forward was controlled by Steve Smith on the edge of the area & he turned & tried his luck but his shot was blocked.  Another chance came Heath’s way when Byron Napper went into the area avoided two tackles & from 3 yards saw his shot saved by Eason.

In the 77^th & 78^th minute Simpson passed to Karl Akehurst who saw his deflected shot saved by Eason & then he flicked on a long ball for Akehurst whose volley from 20 yards went over the bar. On 90 minutes Simpson passed out to Akehurst whose shot from 20 yards was pushed away by Eason.

The game went into added on time & Whitstable had two chances to score but Charlie Smith headed one over the bar & then saw his curling shot go past the post.

The final whistle went & in truth both sides could have been out there another 90 minutes but still not scored but it’s a point a piece.
