Stars of the Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby team will help to make history in Canterbury on Sunday, November 2nd when the Paralympic sport stages the first ever game played in the city.Canterbury Rugby

The landmark event, at the Canterbury High Academy complex, will be opened by the city’s Lord Mayor, Cllr Ann Taylor.

It marks the success of a Canterbury Rugby Club community initiative to establish the sport in the city which was launched less than twelve months ago.

Great Britain and London Club stars Steve Brown, who captained the GB side in the 2012 Paralympics, Steve ‘Archie’ Palmer, Dave Goddard and Matt Hignett will stage an exhibition game against 1st Xv able bodied players

That will be followed by games between Canterbury Wheelchair team, which Steve Brown has been coaching, and Woodbridge Warriors from Suffolk.

The Canterbury Rugby Club Wheelchair section had been organised by the club’s vice-chairman Jonathan Marsh.

 

Sunday’s schedule:

12:30 pm Lord Mayor arrives

12:30 – 1:00 Welcoming address and sponsor presentations

1:00 Exhibition game GB/ex GB and CRFC 1st XV – probably mixed up and may be a short training session before the game

2:00 CRFC v Woodbridge – “Classified” squad

3:30 CRFC v Woodbridge – All players

4:30 – 6:00 Reception in Invicta Room
