VCD Athletic v Ramsgate preview

Seventeenth plays eighteenth as VCD Athletic entertain Ramsgate at the Oakwood on Tuesday evening.

Whilst the match might be classified as a Kent derby, there’s fifty odd miles between the two teams so it could barely be considered as local.

On Saturday, VCD went down 1-0 at home to Greenwich Borough with Jack Samoutis scoring the only goal of the game with twenty minutes remaining.

Meanwhile Ramsgate had a free Saturday with their scheduled opponents in F.A. Trophy action.

Their last game was a 3-0 victory over newly promoted Ashford United. It took them sixty five minutes to break through courtesy of a goal by Rory Smith. Tom Chapman made it two with just over fifteen minutes remaining and Alfie Paxman scored the third two minutes before the end.

Lloyd Blackman, Ramsgate’s manager, will be looking for his team to build on that as they had gone five matches without a win before that.

Included in that run was a one-nil home defeat against the Vickers with Omar Lawson scoring the only goal fifteen minutes from time. VCD manager Keith McMahon will be selecting a team with the aim of completing the league double.

If you’re looking for a form guide, the Rams have won two, drawn one (4-4 at Carshalton) and lost five, including their last three. They’ve conceded 15 goals in their last four away games so it’s clear where Blackman needs to work on.

McMahon’s men will be keen on improving their three wins, one draw and five defeats home record but it promises to be a tight game.

There is almost an entire midweek fixture list over the next three nights so the league table could have a very different look by Thursday morning.
