Tyler Lidsey joins brother in Clio Cup

Tyler Lidsey will join the Renault UK Clio Cup grid for the championship’s final four events of 2019 alongside older brother Brett in the MRM team’s line-up.

Tyler, aged 25, has been a front-running name in the club-level BARC Michelin Clio Cup Series for the past five seasons.

Now, though, comes the step up to the more senior UK Clio Cup with its appearances at the high profile British Touring Car Championship’s events that are broadcast live on ITV4. In addition, trackside crowds average over 38,000 people.

Tyler, sponsored by Lift Out, Under My Roof and Safety Lifting Gear, will join the grid for rounds 11 and 12 of the season at Thruxton, Hants in mid-August before also contesting the following fixtures: Knockhill, Fife (14-15 Sept); Silverstone, Northants (28-29 Sept); his home circuit of Brands Hatch, Kent (12-13 Oct).

He commented: “Brett is obviously having a great season with MRM and is currently third in the championship so it will be interesting to gauge myself against him and the other UK Clio Cup regulars in the latest ‘Gen 4’ Clio Cup race car at this level.

“Until recently, MRM were also leading the standings with Jack Young so it’s a great opportunity for me.

“My goal would be a couple of podiums from the eight races I’ve got – preferably with my brother on the podium with me!

“Ben Colburn (Westbourne Motorsport) I’ve raced against before in the Michelin series and he has had a couple of good podiums as well now, so I’m hopeful of being in the top six.”

MRM Team Principal Mike Ritchie said: “We’ve had some great results so far this season with 11 out of a possible 16 podium results between Jack and Brett –hopefully we can give Tyler a chance of joining them up there.

“He has performed very well for us in the Michelin series and adding him to our UK Clio Cup line-up is a boost to our chances in the Teams’ championship which we are also in the running for…”
