The windfall will be a huge bonus to a Gillingham side just weeks before the transfer window opens and comes with a potential additional £100,000 based on Egan’s appearances for the Championship side.

Gillingham will receive an additional £25,000 for every 20 games that Egan plays, up to 80 games, as well as a 20% sell-on fee after the two clubs failed to agree a transfer fee following his departure from Priestfield at the end of last season.

The Kent side were due the tribunal agreed payment as the two clubs were apart on their valuation for the Irish defender with Gillingham having wanted nearer £1 million for the former Sunderland man, whilst Brentford’s initial offer was in the region of £200,000.

Egan left Gillingham for Brentford in the summer having made 81 league appearances over two seasons, scoring ten goals in the process and has been an ever present for the Championship side this season, scoring twice.
