Tough weekend for Kent racers
Tough weekend for Kent racers

It was a tough weekend for the Kent based teams and drivers in the latest round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.Andy Wilmot - Croft - PSP Images 1

Andy Wilmot only managed to finish one race in his Proton, Kieran Gallagher and Team Hard unfortunately didn’t take place in any of the weekend’s races.

Mike Bushell in his AMD Tuning Ford Focus, didn’t take part in race on due to an injury, he did take part in race two having been strapped up finishing in 19th place. Race three was another race that he didn’t start due to an issue with the car.

Wilmot started from the pitlane in race one and was hoping to get some valuable track time but unfortunately was forced to retire due to a boost pipe issue. In race two he was right there and managed to come home in 22nd place, the high point of his weekend.Jack Mitchell - Croft - PSP Images 1

Race three a water pipe split which caused the rear of his car to slide, which then caused the car to overheat due to the loss of the fluid. The fact that Andy managed to get out on track for all three races is no mean feat after a shunt in qualifying.

Team Hard had the worst luck of all the teams and having put a brand new engine in the car, Kieran didn’t get to unleash its full potential, and became a spectator for the weekend. The team and Kieran will be working hard over the summer break, to ensure they are fighting and ready to go at Snetterton in August.

In the support series, Jack Mitchell had a good weekend for SV Racing with a fourth place in qualifying, he would bring his Clio Cup race car home in fourth place in race one. He then followed that up with a fifth place finish in race two of the weekend and going into the summer break he is fifth in the championship overall and second in the graduate class.Dave Wooder - Croft - PSP Images

Over in the Ginetta Junior series, Chatham’s Dave Wooder qualified in 12th place for race one, unfortunately he only managed three laps in the race. Race two fared slightly better for Dave as he came home in TCR prepared Ginetta in 18th place.

We are now into the summer break with the championships reconvening at Snetterton over the weekend of the 8th and 9th August.
