Three out of Three for Ovenden

Tristan Ovenden made it three out of three with victory at Pembrey in the latest round of the Swift Rallycross Championship.British Rallycross Championship 2015 - Round 2, 6th April

Ovenden from Canterbury is flying in the series with victories at the season opener and also at his home circuit of Lydden Hill. The 2014 champion really is determined to keep hold of his title in 2015, and at the moment it’s hard to see him giving it up.

In his first heat Ovenden started on the second row of the grid but managed to finish second fastest overall. Heat twos grid draw was from a row further back which left Ovenden a lot of work to do, even so he managed to secure third overall in what proved to be a tough heat with both the faster cars in the same heat.

The third heat saw him draw pole position an opportunity which he didn’t pass up and put in the fastest time securing a front row start for the all-important A-Final.

The start of the A-final was characteristically action packed and after a red flag and restart the race got underway. After contact with another car Ovenden managed to get round the tricky first right hander, albeit minus the front wing of his Swift!British Rallycross Championship 2015 - Round 2, 6th April

Ovenden then lead the final from lights to flag putting in a flawless performance finishing nearly a second faster than the second placed driver.

Speaking after the weekend, Ovenden said:“We had a tough first 2 heats and needed to find a bit more time in heat 3, which after some excellent work by the team, we did find to qualify second.

The restart of the final was very close at the first corner with some contact, but once I was on my way I put in good consistent laps to win. It’s a great result for all the team as they worked really hard this weekend.”

The championship now heads to Mondello Park in Ireland for a double header on 27th and 28th June. Before Ovenden can be seen making his debut in an RX Lite when the World Rallycross Championship visits Lydden Hill on 23rd and 24th May.
