Thamesmead Town 1-2 Faversham Town

Thamesmead Town slumped to their second successive League defeat against a direct Faversham Town on Sunday who themselves collected their first League win of the season at Princes Park.

Despite taking the lead early on when Bode Anidugbe fired home, the visitors were ahead at the break courtesy of goals from Harry Goodyer and Danny Walder, and try as they might, the home side just couldn’t find a second goal which would have secured the first point of the season.

In a game of few chances, the visitors almost levelled soon after, but Cook’s diving header went over the top from a tight angle.  Anidugbe then had a great chance to double the lead following the Mead’s best move of the game.  Laker’s throw was flicked on by McCallum for Eze and his cross found Anidugbe, who couldn’t convert shooting wide from inside the box.

Eke and Anidugbe then then combined for Bodkin to loop his header just over the Faversham crossbar before at the other end Godmon made a brilliant block to deny Harris before the visitors did level.  Tenyue crossed to the back post for Goodger who couldn’t really miss at the far post.  What proved to be the winner arrived five minutes later when Walder’s free kick found its way through the box and into the corner of the net.

Half time saw the introduction on Scott Kinch, but not even Kinchy could rally the Mead missing Danny Parish through injury enough to grab an equaliser.

Kinch himself glanced a 50th minute header wide, before Will made a fabulous save to deny Tenyue.  Shortly after, Kinch hooked a ball into the Faversham box but McCallum’s angled drive flew across the face of goal.  Aaron was then left ruing his luck again Anidugbed played him clean through, the Mead man was denied his first goal for the club by the legs of Faversham keeper Overland.

Pacquette then headed Bodkin’s cross over the bar and sadly that was as close as the Mead got as they begin the BOSTIK South East campaign with back-to-back defeats.
