Round six of the Bayford Meadows kart club was held on Sunday, with warm dry weather greeting the 106 competitors at the Sittingbourne circuit.Bayford Meadows - July 2

Bambino timed runs.

The youngest of the competitors the Bambinos, had their usual 3 timed runs throughout the day, Damian Baruss-Haggett took the first two fastest times, before Macauley Bishop buzzed around fastest in the third, very little separating the two over the runs, Blake Ticehurst, Tighe Wratten, Lewis Stannard, Sherrie Powell and Reg Heywood filled the top 6 places during their timed sessions.

Brooks rediscovers his form in Clubmans.

Alfie Brooks usually has a permanent smile on his face whenever you see him around a karting paddock, on Sunday afternoon it was beaming as large as ever as he had rediscovered his fine previous Bayford form by winning the Grand Final in the Honda Clubman class. He finished 1.7 seconds ahead of Jamie Perilly, who had made 2nd place his own from lap 6 onwards. Mitchell Gibbons put in a fine drive to take 3rd , Mika Renzullo finished 4th from  last month’s winner Ryan Willis in 5th who had contact with Joshua Hoy on the last lap, knocking the latter down to a thoroughly dejected 13th place, James Higgins finished next up in 6th  securing the fastest lap on the way, after dropping as low as 11th at one point.

Junior X30 – Glenie’s Evolution.Bayford Meadows - July 1

Evolution driver Alfie Glenie showed a mature head on his young shoulders to take the win in the JX30 Grand Final, controlling the race at a perfectly consistent pace, a superb tonic after tricky start to the year in the class. His team mate Luke Shopland made it a good day for the Evolution team by taking second from championship leader Bobby Grove in third, the three of them separated by a mere 1.4 seconds. Harry Gent’s KPi kart was little way back in 4th, a similar distance behind was Anthony Amato (Ambition) in 5th and then Privateers Cameron Poynten and Reece Shepherd in 6th and 7th.  The race’s fastest lap went the way of Glenie on lap 7.

Novice Chapman wins in Mini Max.

The Mini Max final had a strange feel to it with two drivers on black Novice plates starting from the front row of the final grid. Peter Knight who had won the Pre finals couldn’t quite hold his pace together to complete a clean sweep, as fellow novice Ryan Chapman took over Knight’s initial lead on lap 4 and managed to stay there until the end of the race. Declan Lee was a scant 0.112 seconds behind almost pushing the celebrating Ambition driver over the line. Lee took the fastest lap along the way closing on the leader with each lap. Knight still finished an impressive 3rd from last month’s winner Thomas Lawson, who was on old tyres for this event. Benjamin Boras finished 5th from Harvey Norton in 6th.

Stamp dominates in Seniors.

Senior new boy Lewis Ridd led the eager pack away but was shuffled back to 7th over a very combative opening lap. Anton Stamp showed that his Pre final pace was no fluke by hitting the front and pulling away, winning by 6 seconds at the end. Spencer Younger snatched the 2nd spot and made it his own, withstanding fierce pressure from Jack Wall and Sam Gumbrell over the race’s distance. Ridd  recovered well to finish 5th in front of part time Lewes DJ Steve Crow in 6th, Mike ‘Smart’ Ashby continued his improving form in 7th ahead of Darren Bartlett who had an early race spin, Chris Harvey took the 177 class win.

Debut win for Black amid Subaru drama.Bayford Meadows - July

James Black stole away from pole position to open up an immediate gap over his pursuers in the Junior Subaru Grand Final. Over the following 13 laps he drove faultlessly to take a debut win, no doubt impressing his Dad who mechanics for the Subaru BTCC driver Colin Turkington, on his weekends away from Karting. Owen Hizzy was holding down an excellent 2nd place until he was seen sadly parked up on the exit of the hairpin, allowing championship leader Troy Beswick to take up the chase of the incredibly smooth Black. Beswick hadn’t counted upon fellow pre-race penalised Charlie Nash catching him though and these two fought out a hard duel right until the last lap when they then tangled Hamilton vs Rosberg style within the infield, leaving a frustrated Nash out on the grass scrapping along the tyre barrier. Nash still took the fastest lap and third place behind Beswick but was convinced that he could have caught the leader post race. Behind these three Riley Stephenson had a quiet run into 4th, picking up good points along the way. Zac Spence pipped Mikey Gleeson to 5th , Rogerio Mendes and James Popple also slipping past Gleeson on the last lap to finish 6th and 7th.

Bloch returns with a classy Honda Cadet win.

Sebastian Bloch has been away on SuperOne duty this year, some of which has been character building for the young Ambition driver, however he came away from the Honda Cadet final with a big boost on Sunday after taking the win. Theo Micouris had looked the favourite to take the fight to Bloch after the two Pre Finals and indeed he shadowed the leader’s every move over the opening few laps. On lap 7 however an aborted pass by the Virtus pilot Micouris dropped him back and allowed another circuit returnee Owen Tolley and then Frank Elwell to take up the chase of the blue Ambition kart. Tolley snatched the lead on lap 11 but couldn’t hold off the determined Bloch and then slipped back to 5th. The Project One kart of Frankie Elwell moved up to shadow Bloch closely over the finish line to take 2nd, with Micouris 3rd, Callum Gunning complete with his new DNL sticker kit had joined in with the leading group to finish ahead of Tolley (who took fastest lap) in 4th. Less than a second covered the top 5 at the finish in what had been a very tense and close race. Max Herbert finished 6th just ahead of Zak Ripley and Ethan Kaye.

Appleby recovers in style to dominate Junior Max.Bayford Meadows - July 3

The last final of the day was for the Junior Max class which saw a comfortable win for KPi driver Oliver Appleby, although he didn’t make it easy for himself after his kart bogged down at the start of the first Pre final, leaving him to fight his way back up to finish behind Henry Ayers. Ayers kept Appleby honest in the Grand final with his Project One kart finishing 2.6 Seconds behind after 14 laps. Zak Parfett (RHP racing) finished a good third from GMS driver Sean Berry, an improving Josh Young took 5th from fellow privateer James Freeman in 6th. Winner Appleby also managed to bag the fastest lap on his way to victory.
