Steele delighted to be back

Aaron Steele is delighted to be able to do what he enjoys the most and that is go racing in 2015, as he returns to the F3 Cup.Aaron Steele3

Steele made his name in the series in 2011 with an impressive haul of 14 wins and 15 podiums, and he is keen to be a front runner again, but knows that he will have to work hard having not raced regularly for a while.

Speaking exclusively to Kent Sports News, he said: “I am genuinely excited and can’t wait. It is such a clichéd thing to say, but I honestly mean it. There’s nothing like a lack of racing for a couple of years to remind you how important it is.

That lack of racing has been tough for Aaron, especially when he sees his competitors and friends out on track weekend in weekend out.

He added: “It definitely was, particularly people I have raced with and beaten who have moved onto the big stage. That’s life, I’ve also been pursuing my career as an automotive engineer, so by no means have I not been busy.”

Aaron is back with a team that he knows well in Grays Motorsport and he is looking forward to working with them again.

“The only reason I’m back out there this year is because of Grays Motorsport. As I said previously, if you can race in a team of friends then what could be better? Once again I’d like to extend a huge thank you to them all. We worked well in 2011, everything should hopefully just click back into place.”Aaron Steele7

Steele isn’t thinking about matching his performance from his last full season in the series as there have been so many changes, and he has to get used to them, before he can look to how the season may progress.

He said: “It’s hard to say how many wins there might be, firstly I need the car underneath me that was proven at Snetterton during the last round in 2014 when I made a comeback. The car wasn’t there and the results weren’t what we hoped for. However provided we get the car dialled in, build a bit of momentum, I don’t see why it can’t be a great year.

“The new Pirelli’s certainly throw a curveball into the system, although all the feedback I’ve heard so far seems to suggest they are quite similar. We will see, one thing is for sure, I will be smiling finding out.

“I’ve missed the buzz. That moment when the lights go out, you react on instinct, thread your way through the first few corners… it’s more than magical. One thing I have confidence in is my ability to race, I think it’s like the old bike analogy and I proved it to myself in my comeback last year.”
