St Peter win Kent Reliance Intermediate Challenge Shield

This game and result made history as St Peter from Jersey were the first team outside of Kent to compete in this competition and win it.

St Peter were invited to enter the Competition by the Kent FA and played away four times to reach this final.

Bexley came out of the blocks the quickest as in the 3rd minute Jimmy Rogers saw his free kick saved by Matt Donaldson, St Peter had a chance in the 9th minute when Jake Prince was in on goal but Jack Perry came out & saved with his legs.

In the 18th minute Bexley took the lead when Alex Legge’s free kick into the area saw Joe Abbott rise & his looping header going towards the goal was tapped in by Tyler Norbert.

This kicked St Peter into action as two minutes later a cross into the area was met by Calvin Weir but his header went just wide but three minutes later they equalised when Weir & Sol Solomon combined on the edge of the area leaving Soloman time to pass the ball into net beating Perry.

Weir was getting to be influential in their attacks as in the 26th minute his low cross was half cleared to Sean Lambert who from 20 yards shot just past the post. A minute later Weir’s header put Solomon in the area but his weak shot was saved by Perry.

St Peter were now dominating & in the 39th minute another chance went when Solomon cross into the area was met by Luke Campbell but it went wide & in added on time a corner to the back post found Ben Le Rougetel but he headed wide.

The second half saw St Peter dominate possession & take control of the game, in the 52nd minute they went in front when Harry Cardwell retrieved the ball & cross to the back post where Campbell rose & headed in from 2 yards, a minute later it was three when Cardwell in the area saw his cross shot end up at the back post where Weir side footed the ball home from 2 yards.

On the hour another goal came when Weir in the area was fouled & a penalty given, up stepped Solomon who drove it into the bottom right hand corner. Eight minutes later it was 5-1 when the ball in the area saw the shot come back of the post for Prince to stab home from 3 yards.

In the 76th minute they made it six when Cardwell found Weir in the area & he controlled it before curling it past Perry. The rest of the game saw St Peter in complete control whilst Bexley look bemused by it all, they were beaten by the better side & on that evidence this team could play in the English Pyramid.

They did not have much time to celebrate as their flight from Southend Airport left at 8:20.
