Solent Devils 6-4 Invicta Dynamos

Invicta Dynamos travelled down to the south coast minus Mark Lee, Danny Terry, Frankie Harvey and Grant Baxter as they lined-up for another crucial league game.

v Solent

From the start both teams had half chances as they found room tight in the small rink.

Solent took the lead during a powerplay after Billy Phillips was penalised for hooking, with Alex Sampford combining with Alex Cole and Alex Murray to beat Steve Nightingale.

Invicta continued to press forward but Solent defended their netminder Christian Cole well, Cole himself got down well to deny both Juraj Huska and Callum Fowler in the opening ten minutes.

On 14:40 Invicta’s Jack Lee and Solent’s Alex Cole dropped the gloves, with Cole just about getting the takedown as the verbals between the two carried-on in the penalty box afterwards.

One minute later, Callum Fowler won a faceoff, passed the puck back to Billy Phillips to fire a powerful slapshot past Cole to equalise.

In the second period Mitchell Murray’s eventful evening started well as he put Solent 2-1 ahead from another powerplay on 29:11, assisted by Alex Murray and import Andrew Magee.

Invicta’s own import Michal Oravec then received a 2+10 penalty for hooking and misconduct on 34:29. Solent stretched the lead to 3-1 on 36:24 when Alex Sampford danced through to score unassisted.

Going into the third period Invicta were the busier team with Cole facing 25 shots in the period. Nicky Lewis reduced the score to 3-2 after squeezing the puck past a defeated Cole on 42:45 after good work by Andy Smith.

22 seconds later, Solent were two goals ahead again with Stephen Gosset scoring this time.

Charlie Phillips broke-up a Solent attack on 47 minutes with one of his biggest hits this season, the puck fell to Callum Fowler who quickly found Juraj Huska who made no mistake to make the score 4-3.

Frustratingly for Invicta, George Norcliffe was able to speed past the Dynamos backline on 49:50 to make it 5-3. Solent’s Mitchell Murray was then thrown out the game before the restart for misconduct towards the officials.

Ben Lock combined with Alex Murray on 52:40 to increase the score to 6-3, before Callum Fowler and Juraj Huska combined again for the import to get his second goal of the night to set-up a tight finish, but with no reward.

Andy Smith received the man of the match award for Invicta, with Alex Sampford taking the award for the hosts.

Christian Cole in the Solent net ended the match with a save percentage of 93.10% having faced 58 shots.
