Scott and Pirtek announce Super1600 2017 Title Challenge

Sittingbourne based Darren Scott has announced his plans for a title challenge in the Super1600 class for the 2017 British Rallycross Championship.

Scott has also announced a partnership with Pirtek Franchise Medway for the forthcoming season. The Pirtek name is well known in BTCC, but this announcement signals the companies long awaited return to the world of rallycross. Having previously supported BTCC star Andrew Jordan when he raced in British rallycross.

The Pirtek backed driver is no stranger to Rallycross where he has raced in the single make Swift Rallycross Championship since 2012.

However, Scott sat out the 2016 season as the preparation for 2017 was prioritised. He did race at round 6 at his local circuit of Lydden Hill where he stormed to second place.

As well as the full British campaign, which returns to Mondello Park in Ireland for the first time in 2 years for a double header, Scott is also planning the possibility of select European outings in either the European championship or the French Championship.

Scott acquired the car, a Citroen C2 from Belgian driver Peter Wieczorek who sadly passed away after a battle with cancer earlier in the year.

The Citroen C2 itself has been prepared by JAM Motorsport and Satchell Engineering. The power comes from a Sandy Brown prepared engine.

Speaking about the opportunity, Scott, said: “It’s taken a year of talking and planning but I’m happy that it’s all come together with Pirtek and I’m looking forward to the 2017 season in both the British Rallycross and we are planning to try and compete in some rounds of either European or French championship.

“Driving in Super1600 has been a goal of mine for a few years now and with the help of Pirtek and the rest of my sponsors GSF Car Parts, Scott’s transport, Autosmart and Sandy Brown Racing Engine Technology.”

Speaking about supporting Darren, Darren Edenborough – Centre Manager Pirtek (Medway), said: “Its great to be able to support Darren in his first Super 1600 season. Rallycross is new to us (at Medway) so we are looking forward to the challenges that that will bring.”
