Salisbury City 3-0 Welling United

Five minutes of first half madness ruined any hope that Welling United had of claiming their first victory in April.FOOTBALL (WELLING AWAY)

Although they were enjoying the better of the game, a spell of defensive disarray saw hosts Salisbury City claim three goals in quick succession from the 15th minute mark to wrap up the three points.

Early on Toby Ajala almost embarrassed Brian Dutton by charging down his clearance but Will Puddy was out sharply to clean up.

Jamie Day shot narrowly wide following more good work from Ajala before Welling gave notice of their defensive frailties when allowing former Wing and Dart Charlie Sheringham space to head over from close range from a corner.

It all started to go wrong when Welling gave Elliott Frear the freedom of the penalty area and his miscued shot rebounded off the back of Chris McPhee’s foot and found its way inside the bottom corner.

Two minutes later Jamie White’s speculative shot squirmed under Lee Butcher, then White profited again by intercepting Jack Obersteller’s headed back-pass before flicking beyond the stranded Turner.FOOTBALL (WELLING AWAY)

Jake Gallagher twice came close to reducing the lead, first shooting wide from Ross Lafayette’s through ball and then heading against the crossbar from a cross by the same provider.

Ajala, who gave Kevin Amankwaah a torrid time, beat him just before the break but curled his effort beyond the far post.

Early in the second period, Ajala did find the net with a splendid header from Loui Fazakerley’s cross, but Welling’s joy was snuffed out by an offside flag.

Puddy saved from the same player, Welling’s main threat, soon after as Welling continued to enjoy the majority of possession and territorial advantage.FOOTBALL (WELLING AWAY)

Day fired over when not closed down and substitute Tobi Sho-Silva twice came close, first with a header over from Day’s free kick, and then with an overhead kick from close range that again missed the target.

Joe Healy and Obersteller both failed to find the target from distance before Tom Bender made the tackle of the match to stop Sheringham from breaking through.

Healy and Gallagher both had opportunities late on, but neither was able to beat Puddy.
