Robinson wants four more

Departures aside, Karl Robinson‎ believes he needs another four players to complete his squad.

‎”We need a left-back, a right-back, a winger or a No 10, and a goalkeeper. If somebody leaves, we then need to replace that person with better.

“With the goalkeeper we know who we want, we are just waiting for the opportunity,” said Robinson earlier in the week.

The Addicks are particularly weak at left-back at the moment. Lewis Page is the only specialist senior player in the position, but he is ruled out until October with an injury.

Robinson has made no secret of his desire to bring Chelsea youngster, Jay Dasilva, back for a season long loan, but it remains to be seen whether the Blues will sanction the move.

Chris Solly’s knee will always make him vulnerable, and Robinson may feel former Arsenal youngster, Aaron Barnes, is not yet ready for a lengthy run in the team.

One available option that may interest the manager is Fleetwood’s Conor McLaughlin. McLaughlin joined the Fishermen from Preston in 2012, and has risen through the divisions at Highbury.

He is a Northern Ireland international who will turn 26 next month, and is approaching his prime.

The winger or number ten role could be filled by Ben Reeves. Robinson is a known admirer, and has already spoken to the player about a move to The Valley.

But the deal has dragged on, and he may not be fully committed to a move to Charlton.

Perhaps most intriguing is the goalkeeping situation. David Martin was thought to be joining the club, but this is another deal that has dragged on.

Robinson’s, ‎ “With the goalkeeper we know who we want, we are just waiting for the opportunity,” comment, suggests that he may now be looking elsewhere.
