Portsmouth v Charlton Athletic preview

The Addicks face a game that will be played in a pressure cooker atmosphere at Fratton Park on Saturday.

The match will be played in front of a sell-out crowd, with Charlton being backed by 2,500 travelling supporters.

Victory would see Lee Bowyer’s side move five points ahead of Pompey with just two games remaining. If Portsmouth win, they will leapfrog the Addicks in the table, so the game could scarcely be more important.

Tuesday’s fine win at Shrewsbury on Tuesday has left five of the squad nursing tight hamstrings. Fitness will play a major part in Bowyer’s team selection.

Joe Aribo missed the trip to Shropshire with a shin problem, and Bowyer will probably make changes in an attempt to keep the team fresh.

‎Charllton may look something like this:

Amos; Dijksteel, Bauer, Pearce, Dasilva; Konsa, Forster-Caskey, ‎Reeves, Fosu; Magennis, Ajose.

Subs: Phillips, Kashi, Marshall, Kaikai, Mavididi, Zyro.

The referee will be Mark Heywood from Cheshire.

Kenny Jackett’s teams have an outstanding record against‎ the Addicks, and he will be desperate to beat them again.

But if Charlton can keep their defensive discipline, then the likes of Tariqe Fosu and Stephy Mavididi may produce a moment of magic to win the game.

It is going to be a tense afternoon on the south coast.
