Pennock completing Gills retained list

Adrian Pennock is hoping to have his retained list at Gillingham completed by this weekend.

Having been given the green light to stay on at Priestfield for another twelve months, Pennock has set about deciding who he is going to let go and which players to keep at the club, or at least offer new contracts to.

Two players that won’t be back are defender Mitchell Dickenson and midfielder Emmanuel Osadebe.

Both have taken to Twitter to announce that they’ve left the club with Osadebe quite scathing in his comments, adding fuel to the speculation that he and Pennock didn’t get on by tweeting:

“Enjoyed and learned a lot over my two years at Gills, well one and a half lol. Thankful to all the fans who have been in support of me from the start.

“Shared some great moments and will forever be thankful to the loyal fans. Only the beginning and happy with God’s plan.”

With 12 players out of contract at the club including star striker Cody McDonald, Pennock has spent the past few days working with new Director of Football, Peter Taylor, in deciding who they’d like to keep for next season.

On Thursday defender Zesh Rehman hinted he too could be making for the exit, tweeting:

“Thank you @TheGillsFC for last season & the opportunity to return to the UK. Now considering a number other offers before deciding.”

One player that definitely seems not to be back is striker Rory Donnelly with the Northern Irish international suspended for the final game of the season and then it was revealed he’d been arrested for driving without a full licence.

With some Gillingham fans less than enthused about the appointment of Pennock and Taylor, the pair will no doubt be judged come Christmas on the basis of how their squad has achieved.

Pennock clearly inherited some players that weren’t keen on his style of management with Jay Emmaunuel-Thomas and Frank Nouble swiftly departing Gillingham within days of the former central defender’s arrival.

The coming days will give a clue as to what style of football Pennock wishes to play as the retained list is announced with the Head Coach also working on a number of pre-season friendlies.

One game already confirmed is a trip to Crabble for a pre-season friendly against Dover Athletic with the game scheduled for Saturday 15th July with a 3pm kick-off.

Tickets will be £10 for adults and £5 concessions with under-11s admitted free with a paying adult.
