Nürburgring next for Conway
Nürburgring next for Conway

A month after the heartbreak of Le Mans, Mike Conway and the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing team returns to the World Endurance Championship for the fourth round of the season at their home race at the Nürburgring, Germany.

Currently 9th in the Drivers’ Championship, Mike Conway will see the #7 revert to its original driver line-up with José María López rejoining Mike and Kamui Kobayashi for the remainder of the season.

Taking to the 5.137km Nürburgring Grand Prix lay-out, the #7 TS050 HYBRID will compete in the high-downforce trim this week, delivering the team with more grip through the corners at the expense of top speed. The slow and medium speed corners represent a very different challenge compared to the high speed Le Mans circuit but the setup being used this weekend rewarded the #7 TOYOTA with pole at Silverstone and a second-place finish in Spa at the start of May.

Despite the deeply disappointing Le Mans 24 Hours result last month, TOYOTA remain in a close fight with Porsche for the manufacturers’ World Championships and is targeting a return to winning form at the Nürburgring.

With the podium being the clear objective for the weekend, Mike would need to improve on his best finishes at the circuit with TOYOTA that has seen him finish in 6th place in both 2015 and 2016.

Mike Conway is confident that the team can put an end to its bad luck this weekend.

“I’m looking forward to the Nürburgring and getting back behind the wheel again. We’re back in the high-downforce car which was really strong in the first two races so we should be in good shape. The #7 car hasn’t had much luck so far this year but we have showed we have the pace so I hope we can again fight at the front and score important points for the team in the World Championship.”
